November 2009 To the Wilson School Community: Thank you for an excellent start to the school year. With your participation, our students have been provided with an outstanding school environment to grow physically, socially and academically. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Students, parents and staff have been very busy this fall season. Teachers welcomed parents on Back-To-School night. We have taken field trips and held our annual Halloween Parade. We collected coats for the Wilson PTA Coat Drive and candy for the Treats for Troops effort on Long Island. We are currently planning our Student Council Thanksgiving Food Drive. Our SADD, ALP (ASETS Leadership Program), Fifth Grade Leaders, Chess, Achievers, Scrabble, Mile Club and Math Olympiads have begun. Student Council conducted elections for class leaders and will be holding officer slate elections soon. Spanish is now being taught in each first, second and third grade class. The Early Morning Learning through Movement and fifth grade after-school intramural programs are in full swing. Fifth grade classes are participating in an AIM-sponsored Dancing Classrooms program. We are looking forward to our second culminating performance in December. Our Compact Team has held its initial meeting. Our fifth grade safety patrol, now in its fourth year, assists parents and students with daily arrivals. The program continues to be an expansion of our Leadership Club. Students are assigned to specific classes to assist in ensuring a safe, supervised arrival for our kindergarten, first and second grade students. Please use the webpage as a tool to keep up-to-date with future events and happenings. Plans for the Wilson Carnival to be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 will be noted on our webpage. I welcome you to stop by to share your ideas, encouragements and/or concerns. Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the coming holiday season! Sincerely, Thomas Ricupero Principal
