The Wilson Compact Team met on October 15, 2009.  The following  team members were in attendance:  Student members - Olivia Blablo and Michelle Cosares; Parent members - Donna Fuentes, Gail Einhorn Getty, Laura Blablo; Wilson Staff :  William Chiofalo, Nicole Irwin, Kara Spinelli, Therese Cohen and Tom Ricupero.

 

Team Meeting Dates:  Frequency and length - Monthly, one-hour meetings.  The chair people are scheduled next to each meeting date.  Dates are as follows:

Time and Location:  4:00 p.m., Wilson School,  Room 7

 

Items of Discussion:

School supplies - Why do students need to take the school supplies home and then return them back to school with a very short period of time?

We discussed the possibility of teachers re-examining their list by taking note of the amount remaining at end of the year.

 

Food/Lunch program - second lunch has been faced with no choices on a number of times.  We have adjusted the time schedule slightly to allow for a smooth transition of the gymnasium into a cafeteria; grades 1 and 2 delay their arrival to the cafeteria by three to five minutes.  Their recess remains to be after lunch and is unaffected by the slight time change.

 

Fifth Grade overnight trip - Parent members raised the topic of an over night fifth grade trip for this year.  Fundraising and participants paying for the trip were discussed.  We discussed the need for the BOE's approval and that past overnight trips were done district wide.  The team is pursuing the topic and an appointment with a district office administrator.  Two student members and Mr. Ricupero will be meeting with the Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Pellettieri on November 18th.  Further discussion noted that all the elementary schools do not complete the same type of activities particularly those in the form of field trips i.e. Broadway Shows, fishing trips, etc…

 

Wilson Carnival Updates:

- We  ordered the rides that were voted most popular at last year's student vote @ budget time.  We will have the rock climbing wall, the giant bounce, the trackless train, and the ferris wheel. 

- Ordered a food vendor - Busco's.  We will have available for purchase hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage & peppers, chicken finger plus soft drinks;

Things that need to be done:

  • Looking for vendors ($50 per space & $10 per rental table) i.e., baked goods
  • Games for students to play.  We have some that need to be looked at.
  • Ticket Booths - done
  • Collection of old Elections signs-we are collecting them, bring them to school.
  • Reservation forms for school use
  • Request for Custodians (3)
  • RVC Recreation Center Show Mobile
  • Music and/or sound system
  • Chairperson for Silent Auction
  • Seeking Donations for Game and/or Raffle Prizes
  • Contact Fire Dept. to have them attend with a Fire Truck
  • Contact Police Dept. to have them attend with display and/or vehicle
  • Large Signs to be touched up from prior carnival
  • Student Government - Ice cream sales

 

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 7.  All Compact Team meetings are open to members of our community.
