Rockville Centre's Special Education Parent Teacher Association (RVC SEPTA) exists to support and inform families and teachers of students receiving special education services.

SEPTA offers its members the following benefits:

  • Information:  We host meetings throughout the year to help parents and staff stay informed about issues in special education. Some of the topics we have covered in recent years include the use of technology to level the playing field for children who learn differently, the role of the developmental pediatrician, how undetected visual problems can impact learning and can be remediated, what happens after high school and how to plan for it, and much more. Our meetings also update members on changes in special education within our public school district and in special education law.

  • Networking:  Our members expand their base of knowledge through meeting and talking with other parents and teachers of children receiving special education services.  We help our members get up to speed on special education rights and regulations, as well as learn about anything new in the district, on Long Island or at the state and federal level.

  • Support:  Sometimes you just need to vent. Our members "get it."  SEPTA sharing takes place for 30 minutes before each of our meetings, for those who wish to network or seek support from others who've been there, done that.

We welcome support and membership from all.  The funds we earn from our membership drive support our activities which include: meetings and speakers, newsletter, SEPTA scholarships, Welcome Packet for new parents, Transition Binders packed with information for parents beginning the post-high school planning process, and more.

Our meetings, unless otherwise noted, are held in the South Side High School Library on the 2nd floor. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.; we also host SEPTA Sharing from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for those who have specific questions or concerns they'd like to discuss.

The dates for the this year's meetings are:

  • November 12
  • January 6
  • March 25 (joint meeting with SSHS)
  • April 28 (joint meeting with Riverside Elementary will be held at Riverside)
  • June 15
